Face the Facts
02:13
|
|
||
Fake a smile and hold a casual conversation with your friends
Try to laugh even when there's nothing to laugh at
cause once you recognize that everyone feels the same as you
you find meaning in the motions we go through
Pick your fights. Some things you just can't and won't get right on your own.
Face the facts. You never get what you want back.
So enjoy what you have while it's still sitting there or lying next to you
cause everything that you love you're eventually gonna lose
Fake a smile and hold a casual conversation with your friends
Make it last cause these are the days you don't get back
and when you're old and grey and you're sitting there with no one next to you
you'll miss everyone you never thought you'd lose

Settling for Second Best
03:11
|
|
||
The sun came out
and the clouds were gone
and I tried my best to do no harm
but I always fail
when I’m at my best
I’ve lost everything I’ve loved and I’ve settled for the rest
that’s how I came to you
I know it’s sad, but it’s true
but whatever broke your heart, it’s now breaking my heart to
cause when I give it my all
I find nothing there at all
and I’m always left
not knowing what I didn’t get
should I see it in the clouds
or the words that leave my mouth
now my nights are cold
just like you
so I don’t give a damn about the things you say you just went through
cause you never cared
so why should i?
I’ve got people in my life that deserve more of my time
cause when I give it my all
I find nothing there at all
and I’m always left
not knowing what I didn’t get
should I see it in the clouds
or the words that leave my mouth
It’s the nights that I spent with you
that make me say the things I do
after you left
My words don’t ever come out right
I’m just a little kid alone at night
and I’m scared
of the proper things to say to you
like take me back or I miss you
or I’m sorry.
So, I’m sorry.

Black Box
03:12
|
|

Street lines evenly placed
black and white turn to grey
there's a simple explanation
for losing sight of your destination
you've got to see where you started
and know when to stop and be at ease
with the life that you've forgotten
haunted by your memories
I don't want to go back
I don't want to move forward
I just want my past
to turn into something more
Cause I need a way out of this dream
that I've tried living
but I've got nowhere else to go
my mind is a home that I can't leave
As far back as I remember
there's a little black box that's full of bitter
excuses for my problems
so I tried to outrun them
but now my days and nights are haunted
Living like I'm always in a dream
finding signs in phones and floorboards
unsure what's real and make believe

Belmont Hills
02:51
|
|

I always thought that things would end up like I'd seen in those books and pictures
So take back those lies cause they do nothing for me
Take me back to belmont hills
where life was easier
and money didn't matter
cause we didn't have any
father in a new career
and mother was always there
what happened to our ways?
All the artwork it is gone
from the refrigerator door
and I've seen that house only twice more
in the yard we'd play our games with imagination
now the games we play end with humiliation
And those lies
are dancing in our headlights
and I just can't seem to understand
cause you'll laugh
and I'll laugh
but it doesn't feel the same anymore
and I just want to feel the same
so take me back home

Repeated History
01:43

I watched the film a thousand times
to figure out which role was mine
so I could relate better
and I took out all the liner notes
of the albums that I played the most
rearranged them to say something different
I cursed my idols
rejected my heroes
I made examples
of the people I cared about most
Now I read my story back to front
I lose myself in what I’ve done
I’m moving closer to the exposition
and I’m beginning to see that either way
this story’s read it ends the same
Drifting apart from my lack of grace
I’ll forget their faces
move off to a new town
repeat my choices
and leave the people I care about

Record Sides
03:54
|
|
||
All the comic books I read at work
taught me nothing about my future
so what’s my future?
Change the tone and change the melody
take it from the top and then we’ll sing
without knowing the right words
But you would never complain
Ooooooooooo
But you would never complain
Ooooooooooo
That I live my life in record sides
22 minutes at a time
and I hope that you hope that I stay here
cause the thrill has taken over me
tripped me and left me trembling
and I know that you know we’ll get through
My free time’s almost caught up with me
I’m running out of books to read and songs to sing
I’m just living for Saturday cartoons
I see nothing wrong with the life I lead
All my books on tape keep me company
While I wait for you to come home
But you would never complain
Ooooooooooo
But you would never complain
Ooooooooooo
That I live my life in record sides
22 minutes at a time
and I hope that you hope that I stay here
cause the thrill has taken over me
tripped me and left me trembling
and I know that you know we’ll get through
But you would never complain
Ooooooooooo
But you would never complain
Ooooooooooo
But you would never complain
Ooooooooooo
But you would never complain
Ooooooooooo
